State Inspection Overview: The Pennsylvania State Inspection Program requires safety inspections to ensure the safe operation of vehicles. Safety inspections can prevent vehicle failure on highways and may reduce injuries and fatalities. During a safety inspection, a certified inspector will perform a systematic check of a vehicle's safety components, such as brakes, lights and exhaust systems. 

All safety inspections must be performed at an official state inspection station.
